2007 Competitions details & Schedule

The 2007 Canmore Ice Climbing Festival will consist of two competitions:

 

  • The 2007 Outdoor (Intermediate) Mixed Competition on Saturday, December 8th at the CICF Village

  • The 8th Annual CICF Speed Challenge on Sunday, December 9th at the CICF Village

The Mixed Master and Speed Challenge will consist of open and intermediate categories for males and females. The Outdoor Mixed Competition will be for male and female intermediate competitors only. Winners in each category will receive gear as prizes.

 

The exact prizes will be determined the week before the festival. The speed competition will be capped at 60 competitors. The Outdoor Mixed Competition will be capped at 30 intermediate competitors.

 

All competitors must sign a Waiver of Liability form.

The 2007 Outdoor Intermediate Mixed Competition
The CICF Festival Village

Intermediate category (M6-M8)

There is no open category

Registration: There will be a maximum of 25 competitors.  Competitors can register at the CICF Village by 12pm.  Registration information package
 

Prizes: Awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each category.  There are separate categories for Men & Women in the intermediate class.

 

Entry fee: $25+GST=$26.50.  Entry fees will be dues at the time of check-in.

 

Check-in, Waiver Signing and Rule Discussion: Competition registration, 12pm.  Competition start at 1pm.
 

Admission for spectators: free

 

Format: The outdoor dry tooling competition will be for intermediate category climbers only. The winner will be determined by the climber who gets to the highest hold in the shortest amount of time. The top hold will only be counted if it is reached in control. There will be a maximum time set (likely 7 minutes). When the climber falls off, their turn is over.

The 2007 CICF Speed Challenge
The CICF Festival Village

Intermediate category (WI 4-5+)
Open Category (WI 6+)

Registration: Competitors can register at the CICF Village by 12pm.  Registration information package

 

Prizes: Awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for each category.  There are separate categories for Men & Women in the intermediate class.

 

Entry fee: $10+GST=$10.60.  Entry fees will be dues at the time of check-in.

 

Check-in, Waiver Signing and Rule Discussion: Competition registration, 12pm.  Competition start at 1pm.
 

Admission for spectators: free

 

Format: There will be no particular order for the qualifying round. All climbers will climb both sides of the wall, trying to set their best time (your final time will be the total of both climbs). Times within one second of each other will be considered a tie. The top 8 fastest times in each category will go on to the elimination round.

 

After both intermediate and open categories have qualified, the finals will take place. Competitors in each category will be seated against each other in an elimination style competition: 1:5, 2:6, 3:7, 4:8. The winners from the quarter-final elimination round will go on to the semi-final. Their position in the semi-final will be based on their time in the quarter-final: 1:3, 2:4. Third place will be determined by the third fastest time in the semi-final. The winners from the semi-final elimination round will compete for first place.
